Frequently Asked Questions
What is stick & stitch paper?
Stick & stitch (also called water-soluble stabilizer or dissolving embroidery paper) is a self-adhesive sheet with a pre-printed embroidery design. You peel, stick it to your fabric, stitch through both layers, then dissolve the paper in water — leaving only your stitching on the fabric.
Will it work on dark or textured fabric?
Yes — this is one of the biggest advantages of stick & stitch paper. Because you’re stitching through the printed paper rather than transferring ink onto the fabric, it works perfectly on dark, textured, knitted, or stretchy materials where pens and carbon paper fail.
Does the paper dissolve completely?
Yes. Submerge your finished embroidery in warm water for 1–3 minutes and the paper dissolves fully with no residue. Gently agitate the water if needed, then lay flat to dry.
Can I use this on clothing or items that will be washed?
Yes — once the paper is dissolved and the piece is dry, your embroidery is permanent and washable as normal. Always follow the care instructions for your base fabric.
What needle and thread should I use?
Standard embroidery floss (such as DMC stranded cotton) and a sharp embroidery needle work perfectly. Stitch through both the paper and fabric as you normally would — the paper is thin enough not to affect your stitch tension.
Which design style should I choose?
Flowers & Leaves and Floral are ideal for classic, nature-inspired embroidery. Landscapes suit scenic or painterly projects. Gothic is perfect for bold, dramatic designs with darker aesthetics. Each pack contains 4 sheets of your chosen style.
