Wick Types

ECO Series (sizes 21, 27, 30, 35)
ECO wicks are flat braided cotton wicks with a thin paper filament woven through the braid. The paper thread makes the wick self-trimming — it curls and burns away as the candle burns, reducing mushrooming and maintaining a consistent flame height without needing to trim between burns. ECO wicks are particularly well suited to soy wax container candles and perform reliably with paraffin and coconut wax too.

Cotton Series (sizes 30, 35)
Standard flat braided cotton wicks without the paper filament. A versatile all-purpose wick suitable for container candles, pillar candles, and taper candles across all wax types. Trim to 5–7mm before each burn for best results.

How to Use

Cut wick to the height of your container plus 2cm. Thread through a wick tab, crimp closed, and center in your container. Prime the wick by dipping in melted wax and allowing to dry before use — this improves first-light performance. Pour wax and allow to cool fully. For ECO wicks, the self-trimming action activates once the candle is burning — still trim to 5–7mm before the very first burn. For Cotton wicks, trim to 5–7mm before every burn.

Which wick size should I use for my candle?
Use the diameter guides above as a starting point, then always test burn. Pour a test candle and burn for 2–4 hours. The melt pool should reach edge-to-edge within 4 hours. If it doesn’t, size up. If the flame is too large or the melt pool reaches the edge within 1 hour, size down. Wax type, fragrance load, and container shape all affect the ideal wick size.

Should I choose ECO or Cotton?
Choose ECO if you want a lower-maintenance burn with less frequent trimming — the self-trimming paper filament reduces mushrooming and keeps the flame consistent. Choose Cotton if you prefer a traditional all-purpose wick or are making pillar candles where you’ll be trimming regularly anyway. Both perform well; the difference is mainly in convenience for container candle makers.

Yes — ECO wicks are one of the most popular choices for soy wax container candles precisely because soy wax can be prone to mushrooming with standard cotton wicks. The self-trimming paper filament in ECO wicks helps reduce this significantly.

How many candles will a 50m spool make?
For a standard 8cm tall container candle using approximately 10–12cm of wick per candle, a 50m (5,000cm) spool yields approximately 400–500 candles.
