How to Use

Container candles: Cut wick to the height of your container plus 2cm. Thread through a wick tab, crimp closed, and center in your container using a wick centering tool or two pencils across the rim. Prime the wick by dipping in melted wax and allowing to dry before use — this improves first-light performance. Pour wax and allow to cool fully before trimming the wick to 5–7mm.

Pillar candles & silicone molds: Thread the wick through the base hole of your mold and seal around it with mold sealer putty. Pull the wick taut and secure at the top with a wick bar or pencil. Pour melted pillar wax at the correct temperature. Once fully cooled, trim to 5–7mm before the first burn.

Wick Sizing Guide

As a general starting guide for twisted cotton wick:

• Up to 5cm (2 inch) candle diameter: thin twisted wick
• 5–8cm (2–3 inch) diameter: medium twisted wick
• 8cm+ (3 inch+) diameter: thick twisted wick or consider a double wick

Always perform a test burn with your specific wax, fragrance load, and container before committing to a full batch. Twisted wick tends to produce a slightly larger flame than flat braided wick of the same thickness — size down if you find the flame is too large during test burns.

What is the difference between twisted and flat braided wick?
Twisted wick has a rounder, more structured cross-section and tends to produce a slightly larger, more stable flame than flat braided wick of a similar thickness. Flat braided wick is more common for container candles; twisted wick is well suited to pillar candles, tapers, and candles where a stronger draw is needed. Both are 100% cotton and smokeless when correctly sized.

Which length should I buy?
The 10m spool is ideal for small batches and testing new candle designs. The 30m spool suits regular hobby makers. The 61m spool offers the best value per metre and is ideal for makers producing candles in larger quantities.

Do I need to prime the wick?
Priming is recommended. Dip the cut wick in melted wax, straighten, and allow to dry fully before use. Primed wicks light more easily on the first burn and help establish the melt pool faster, particularly in denser waxes like beeswax.

How many candles will each spool make?
For a standard 8cm tall container candle using approximately 10–12cm of wick per candle: the 10m spool yields approximately 80–90 candles, the 30m spool approximately 250 candles, and the 61m spool approximately 500 candles.
