How to Use Mold Release Spray

  • Make sure your mold is clean and dry before applying release spray.
  • Spray or brush a thin, even coat of mold release onto the interior surfaces of your mold, including all crevices and detail areas.
  • Allow to dry for approximately 5 seconds before pouring your casting material.
  • Pour your resin, wax, plaster, or soap as normal and allow to fully cure or set.
  • Once cured, flex the mold gently and push from the base to release the casting cleanly.
  • For complex molds with deep detail, use the applicator brush to work the release agent into recessed areas before spraying a final even coat.
  • Reapply between pours for best results, especially with epoxy resin or plaster.
  • Being water-soluble, any residue on your finished casting can be rinsed off with water.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need mold release spray for silicone molds?
Silicone molds are naturally non-stick and often do not require mold release for standard epoxy resin pours. However, mold release spray is recommended for detailed or deep molds where the cured resin may grip fine features, for plaster or cement casts that can bond more aggressively to mold surfaces, and for extending the life of frequently used silicone molds.

Will mold release spray affect the surface finish of my resin piece?
A thin, even coat applied correctly should not leave visible residue on your finished piece. Applying too much can cause clouding or fish-eye effects on the resin surface. Less is more — a light, even coat is sufficient.

Can I use this for candle making?
Yes — this spray is suitable for candle molds including silicone and HDPE molds. Apply a light coat before pouring wax to ensure easy candle release once the wax has fully cooled and set.

Is it safe to use on all resin mold types?
This spray is formulated for silicone, HDPE, and epoxy rubber molds. Avoid use on polycarbonate or acrylic molds, as silicone oil can cause crazing or clouding on some plastic surfaces. Always test on a small area of an unfamiliar mold type before full application.

Is the formula water-soluble?
Yes — the silicone oil in this spray is water-soluble, making it easy to rinse off tools, molds, and any residue on finished castings with plain water.
