Unlike powder pigments, alcohol inks dissolve fully for a jewel-toned transparent finish, or can be dropped into wet resin to create organic marbled and geode-style swirls. A few drops go a long way — each bottle is highly concentrated.

How to Use Alcohol Ink in Resin

  • Mix your epoxy resin (Part A + Part B) thoroughly before adding ink.
  • For solid color: add 1–3 drops to your mixed resin and stir well before pouring.
  • For marbled/geode effects: pour clear or lightly tinted resin into your mold first, then drop ink directly onto the wet surface and swirl with a toothpick or heat gun.
  • Colors can be layered or blended — pour in stages for depth and dimension.
  • For alcohol ink art (non-resin): drop directly onto Yupo paper, ceramic, or glass and blow with a straw or heat gun to spread.
  • Store bottles upright with caps tightly closed away from heat and direct sunlight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between alcohol ink and resin dye?
Alcohol inks are alcohol-based and create fluid, organic, marbled effects when dropped into wet resin. They stay suspended in streaks rather than blending fully. Resin dyes (oil-based) mix evenly throughout the resin for solid, consistent color. Both give a transparent finish — the choice depends on whether you want a marbled or solid-color result.

Can I use these on surfaces other than resin?
Yes — alcohol inks work on non-porous surfaces including Yupo paper, ceramic, glass, and metal. They are not suitable for porous surfaces like regular paper or wood without a sealant.

How many drops do I need per project?
Typically 1–5 drops for a small pendant or pour. These inks are highly concentrated — start with less than you think you need and build up.

Will alcohol ink affect resin cure time?
Used in small amounts, alcohol inks will not inhibit epoxy cure. Avoid adding excessive quantities. For UV resin, use sparingly as alcohol can slow UV curing.

Can I mix colors together?
Yes — alcohol inks blend freely. Mix in your resin cup or directly on the surface for custom color effects.
