How to Use

Insert a wick pin through the base hole and seal with mold sealer putty. Pour melted pillar wax at 60–68°C. Allow to cool fully at room temperature — do not rush cooling as this can cause surface cracking or loss of fine detail. Top up any sinkholes with a second small pour. Once fully set, peel the mold gently away from the base upward. Trim wick to 5–7mm before first burn. For the Seated Mermaid Sculpture, support the mold upright during pouring as the asymmetric form may need to be propped in position.

Frequently Asked Questions

What wax gives the best detail on these molds?
Hard paraffin pillar wax captures the finest shell, scale, and hair detail. Beeswax also works very well and gives a beautiful warm, natural tone that suits the mermaid designs. Avoid soft container soy or coconut wax — it won’t hold the sculptural form. If using soy, blend in 5–8% candelilla or beeswax to firm it up.

Can I use the Seated Mermaid mold for resin or plaster?
Yes — both molds are excellent for resin and plaster. The Seated Mermaid Sculpture is particularly popular as a resin figurine or plaster ornament. Use mold release spray before pouring resin for easier demolding and sharper detail retention.

Are these suitable as gifts?
Absolutely — mermaid candles are a popular and unique handmade gift. The Mermaid & Shells Pillar makes a striking display candle, while the Seated Mermaid Sculpture is beautiful as both a candle and a decorative keepsake once burned down. Use ivory, sandy tan, or ocean-blue wax to complement the designs.

How do I get a smooth base on the Seated Mermaid candle?
Because the Seated Mermaid has an irregular base, you may need to lightly sand or level the bottom of the finished candle on a warm flat surface so it sits stably. Alternatively, place it in a shallow dish or on a decorative plate for display.
