How to Use

Set the mold upright on a flat, heat-resistant surface. Thread a pre-waxed wick through the base wick hole (or use a wick pin to create the hole after demolding — see FAQ). Pour your melted pillar wax at the recommended pour temperature for your wax type (typically 60–68°C / 140–155°F for paraffin pillar, 55–60°C / 131–140°F for soy pillar). Leave to cool fully at room temperature — do not refrigerate. Top up any sinkhole that forms at the center as the wax contracts. Once fully set (minimum 4–6 hours, ideally overnight), peel the silicone mold away from the candle. Trim the wick to 5–7mm before burning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What wax works best for pillar candles in this mold?
Pillar candles require a harder wax that sets firm and holds its shape at room temperature. Use a dedicated pillar wax blend (paraffin-based or soy pillar blend) rather than container soy wax, which is too soft and will slump. Beeswax also works very well for pillar molds and produces an excellent surface finish.

How do I thread the wick?
Most silicone pillar molds have a small wick hole at the base. Thread a pre-waxed cotton wick through the hole from the outside, leave a few centimeters extending from the base, and seal the hole with a small amount of mold sealer putty or soft wax to prevent leaks. Secure the wick at the top with a wick centering stick or bar. Pour wax and leave to set. After demolding, the base of the candle becomes the top — trim the wick and the sealed base hole can be trimmed or melted flush.

Why did my pillar candle crack?
Cracking usually occurs from pouring at too high a temperature, cooling too quickly, or using a wax that contracts aggressively (common with high-shrink paraffin). Try pouring at a slightly lower temperature, allow the candle to cool slowly at room temperature, and top up the sinkhole with a second pour to reduce internal stress.

Can I use this mold for soap or resin?
Yes — food-grade silicone molds are versatile and work for cold-process soap, hot-process soap, resin casting, plaster, and concrete. Note that some resins generate significant heat during curing — check the mold’s heat tolerance before use with reactive resins.

How do I clean the mold?
Wipe out any wax residue while still slightly warm (not hot), then wash with warm soapy water and leave to air dry. Avoid abrasive scrubbers that can damage the wave texture detail on the interior surface.
